What we do

At present, XGSOM offers one course across four different instruments:

Guitar - Bass - Keyboard - Drums

The XGSOM foundation course is intended as a crash course to get you from maybe someone who has never played an instrument before to somebody who could easily perform any given song quite comfortably in a band environment.

With that in mind, this course isn't designed to turn you into a musical genius, however more so prepare and give you the skills or the foundation you need to be able to take your learning to the next level.

The Course

The XGSOM Foundation course consists of 16 stages which are delivered in groups of up to 3 students at a time.

The first session is free.

This is more of an meet and greet/assessment session where the ability and needs of the student can be assessed and then advised on where would be appropriate on the course to commence.

Pricing

Each session is £15 per student and is 25 minutes long.

Students also have the option to 'Hire to Own' an instrument where they get to take an instrument home to practise on. This is an additional £5 per session but upon completion of the course the student then gets to keep that instrument!

Saturday the 24th of May is the official launch day of XGSOM.

During this day we are inviting members of the public to come and enjoy a free 20 minute meet & greet/assessment session where you can speak with us about your requirements and expectations and we can inform you what we offer as a school and more information about the course curriculum. Then, the following week (Saturday the 31st of May) is when the actual sessions start.

Q&A

How long does it take to complete the course?

The course is compiled over 16 stages. Assuming the student has access to their given instrument, they spend at least 20 minutes a day practising and can demonstrate that they are competent in what was taught at the previous session then the Foundation course could be completed in as little as 16 weeks. XGSOM is working on further education courses which will be announced in the near future!

Is the instrument really mine after the course completion?

Yes it is!!
Instruments are selected and refurbished to a high standard and after course completion, students get to keep that chosen instrument!

Extra Info:

Parents are welcome to come along and sit in the first session however due limited space available we are unfortunately unable to facilitate a waiting area. Parents are welcome to drop off their children then pick them up when the session is complete. There are many places to pass the time in Bearwood! The high street has many restaurants, cafes and there is also the Abbey Bar & Grill which is a lovely family run pub only a stones throw from the Hub itself!

About the Founder

Kristian '10 Guitars' Smart was born and raised in Marston Green but currently resides in Bearwood, Smethwick.

He has nearly 40 years experience in performing Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard and Drums. XG is also a Techno Producer, Sound Designer, Events Organiser and performs in many different bands and outfits across the UK aswell as Bearwood, Halesowen and Stourbridge.
